|Rescue Me ID: 16-11-30-00224Tilly (female)|
Meet Tilly! She is new to rescue and approx. 8months old. Tilly is VERY SHY AND TIMID!!! She was found as a stray and had been out for quite some time. She is very scared right now, but has improved leaps and bounds in her foster home. She is playing with toys, using potty pads to go to the bathroom, eating well, sleeping in bed with her foster family, and getting along well with her foster pug siblings. Tilly still has a long ways to go, she does not know yet how to walk on a leash, is still learning about the back yard, and what to do out there. Tilly is the sweetest girl and loves to be warm and cuddle, she loves to curl up in beds, or on the couch. She has just recently started to play with her foster siblings! Tilly needs to learn what being a pup is all about. Till will do best in a house without small children, and with at least 1 othe dog to learn from. Her family will need to have patience and dedication to be willing to help her overcome her fears and work with her on a regular basis. She has come so far so quickly we fully believe she will be a wonderful pup, and a great addition to the right family! |Rescue Me ID: 16-11-30-00210Jenkins (male)|
Meet Jenkins! Jenkins is a new senior pug in the rescue. He was found stray and came through a shelter. He is temporarily fostered in Richmond, Va while he gets his medical needs met but once he is healthier, he will be moved to his real foster home. Jenkins could use some positive vibes to help him get healthier. He came in with pneumonia and may have some underlying lung issues. He is mostly blind and deaf and his teeth are in terrible shape. We need to tackle the pneumonia first and for at least a week he is being quarantined from other dogs and we are trying to keep him relaxed and quiet...which is tough for a blind/deaf dog who is in a brand new environment. He is on a lot of medication and if he can kick this pneumonia, we can start tackling his other issues. He is heartworm negative (great news!) and most of his bloodwork is good, although there are some thing we are going to keep an eye on. He is cryptorchid so his neuter will be more complicated than others as well. While he does have a lot going on...he is still a spunky guy. He likes leash walks, although walking in a straight line seems to be a challenge...he prefers to wander in whatever direction he chooses. He didn't seem to understand a dog bed at first and would lay on the floor and just put his chin in the bed but after a few days, he started to catch on! |Rescue Me ID: 16-09-26-00135Fred and Ginger (male)|
The twins (11 years young), as we affectionately call them, are the quintessential Pugs. Upon arrival into foster care, they immediately received a bath and basic grooming, giving lots of positive encouragement. The appreciation and love shown by the pint-sized Ginger was enough to bring tears to my eyes. And Fred, same dear reaction, making sure to give kisses while working hard to behave and listen to light commands. Both proved from the gecko to be very eager to love and please and adorably responsive to reciprocation. Feeding was a thing to behold and how they came to be named 'Fred and Ginger'. With filled bowls in hand, the Pugs commenced to perform with excited leaps and perfect spins as if mimicking the great Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers. This precious dance is repeated at each meal. Typical to the Pug, they love being your shadow while also enjoying Lewis and Clark adventures. Both are great with other dogs, big and small, and though they have not been cat tested, I don't believe sharing a home with a feline friend would pose any problems. Cuddling at night is a dream come true for these two, and they lap it up with a love that will melt your heart. They will sleep all night unless the rare late-night potty may be needed and if so, they will gently nudge you to express their needs. House training has gone wonderfully. With vibrant praise each time they go potty, and following their time schedule with number two, they are well on their way to being fully trained. A dog door or open back door would be a huge help as this is what has brought success. And a fenced yard for these two is a must. They are adventurous and if they can check out the neighborhood too, especially while you're not looking, boy they're going to do it. Rarely showing their advancing age, they trot all over the yard, with a happy go-lucky spirit that is positively infectious. These two munchkins are small in stature but huge in heart. If you possess a desire to wash these two with a great life full of love and joy while enjoying the pure and unconditional love they yearn to give, this may be your pair. |Rescue Me ID: 16-08-20-00075Frankie (male)|
Frankie is 3 years old. He has juvenile onset cataracts that are very bad. He can see light and dark but he often miss steps, falls and bumps into things. He has hearing issues from possible untreated ear infections. He has some significant allergies that are not responding to antihistamines. Frankie likes all the attention and because of his poor eyesight and hearing often does not hear or see the cues from other dogs. They get frustrated with him and grown and fight but Frankie is very passive and usually will not fight back. Frankie was used as a stud and kept caged or outside. He is NOT housebroken. He does not like to go outside so I think this is an issue. He is very very loving, sweet, comical and precious friend. We rescued him from the breeder and I hoped that I could help him but Frankie need a financially stable home and I am sorry to say that I am not at this time and even though he has completely stole my heart, I cannot care for him properly. He has a long life ahead of him and I want it to be the best life possible! (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 16-07-13-00183Wade (male)|
Wade is a pug mix who came to the rescue through a shelter. He was found stray and probably was stray for quite some time. After evaluating his eyes, teeth, etc, our veterinarian estimates that he is 10 years old. When he came into the shelter he had a severe flea infectation. The fleas were eliminated but he had significant fur loss as a result. He also needed a dental to fix some teeth and clean them up. After a few weeks of medications, his hair has returned and he has almost completed all of his medical treatments! He is heartworm negative, current on vaccines, current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, microchipped and will soon be ready for his forever family! Wade was stray for a long time and looks like he was never very well socialized. He has had to learn to accept affection appropriately and how to be a house pet. He started out fearful of attention and care. At this point, he lets his foster mom pick him up, carry him around, pet him, give him kisses, trim his nails, etc! When he does find that perfect home, they are going to need to be patient with him as it can take a little while for him to settle in and trust his new family. He is fine with cats and is okay with other small dogs. He doesn't want to snuggle or play with them but if the dog is mellow, he is fine with them. He does not like very active or playful dogs. He is mostly housetrained as long as he is kept on his schedule and he eats a regular diet. He loves a good nap and has several beds that he has made all his own and can almost always be found snuggled in either sleeping or observing what is going on around him. The ideal home for Wade right now would be a home either no other pets, or very mellow pets and if there are children, they need to be old enough to understand the right way to pick up and hold Wade. He needs a family who is willing to give him the time it takes to adjust to a new environment. He really is a sweetheart and will make any family very happy! if you are interested in more information or adopting please visit our website www.midatlanticpugrescue.org. (Less)
