|Rescue Me ID: 16-06-09-00177Gertie (female)|
Our little family is in a bit of a pickle, and we are reaching out to all of the animal lovers hoping beyond hope for a solution. See, about six years ago, I adopted a little chihuahua/pug mix from the shelter. Her name is Gertie and it was immediately clear that Gertie had come from a very abusive home. Years of TLC finally brought Gertie around and her sweet nature eventually shined through. That is, until we had a baby. Since our daughter came home Gertie has been on a downward spiral---either aggressively trying to herd the baby or shaking and cowering in her crate every time that the baby makes noise(which is pretty constant these days!) We are starting to run out of options---the baby's increased mobility has resulted in more than one baby vs. dog showdown already...we are very nervous about what could happen once our baby is fully licensed to walk. Gertie is now eight years old---she is the size of a small pug (about 12 lbs). She is up to date on all shots and has a clean bill of health. She is full of spunk and love and enjoys keeping all of the big dogs in line at dog park. She gets along with other animals as long as she has her space at meal times. She loves car rides, hikes (even in the snow if the trail is packed down), burrowing in blankets, walks---she is good on and off leash, crate trained, comes when called...she takes a minute to warm up to strangers, but give her some pets and lap time and you have a true and loyal friend for life (as long as you don't go a ruin everything by bringing a baby home!) We are doing everything that we can think of to try and keep Gertie out of a shelter. She has been a wonderful companion and deserves better than an uncertain future behind bars. Please, please don't feel any pressure---but do consider if there is room in your lives and on your laps for Miss Gertie. We will move mountains if it means finding Gertie a better home. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 16-05-09-00448Dora & Clara-PENDING! (female)|
We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see adorable young pups. Dora and Clara are the kind of babies who snuggle in, love you up and then put their heads on your shoulder. They're both so sweet (while being initially just a bit shy) and truly kind with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless dogs like Dora and Clara are in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space or on the streets hiding in the shadows. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuer in Tijuana, Mexico for saving Dora and Clara from abuse and certain euthanasia. She could see that their temperaments were so sweet and their need so great that she couldn't turn her back on these very special pups. Dora and Clara were immediately brought to be vetted, given the appropriate vaccinations, spayed, granted health certificates and brought to a dog-loving foster to begin their education as a cherished house dog. When we think of rescue, our thoughts don't usually go onto the tough streets of Tijuana. But these forgotten dogs deserve our help every bit as much as their US counterparts. They all have been used for opportunistic purposes...to either breed and discard or to sell as a puppy to a Mexican mill or rich tourists. Virtually all of them have lived on the streets and survived by learning to be social. They love people because compassionate tourists were their means of survival. They can sit in any language and fit quietly into any scene to earn a treat or discarded meal. This was the life waiting for Dora and Clara..both just 18 months old and 9 lbs. Theirs is such a perfect size to be able to accompany their family just about anywhere and fit right in due to great temperaments. Both girls are already starting to understand that sweet, cuddly and cooperative behavior makes great things happen in life. They were two of the extremely lucky young dogs to show great promise in their socialization skills at a very early age. The US rescuers couldn't help but fall in love with Dora and Clara! We all had a clear picture of these very sweet and fun-loving girls in a forever Colorado home with a family that cherishes them for life. Farfel's will only consider adopting this bonded pair out together. They've always derived confidence and love from their relationship with each other. As Dora and Clara become comfortable in their home, they will become fuzzy balls of good-will that love to please - the happier their family is with their behavior, the more they will shine with their accomplishments. We would like to see Dora and Clara in a home that includes them in family time and activities (and some lap or couch-time would be perfect!)... and takes that extra step to participate in positive reinforcement obedience classes. These classes take very smart girls like Dora and Clara and teaches them the skills to fit into great family members that can behave appropriately in any situation. Dora and Clara would also be wonderful companions for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with truly adorable young pups. The girls would enjoy another gentle dog to play with (although not necessary for their happiness). These girls are truly a case of two being easier than one. When their family is home, they love to interact and love their people. But when life away from home calls their guardians away...Dora and Clara can happily play with each other. Dora and Clara were identified as Pug/Chihuahua mixes by their Tijuana rescuer. This is difficult to determine with certainty, but we can definitely see both adorable and engaging breeds in these very sweet dogs. Dora and Clara are lightly shedding dogs with the cottony-soft hair that speaks of their breed mix. Both girls will require a commitment to periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement would be great) to keep their hair healthy and shiny. Dora and Clara are currently being fostered in the Denver area. Applications are currently being accepted for our very sweet girls with the dark, expressive eyes. If interested in these adorable ...and often very fun and entertaining best friends, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to email@example.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
