Rescue Me ID: 14-10-20-00658Nitro (male)

Pug Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Nitro was born about July 1, 2008 and weighs about 20 lbs. He is just cute as a button and has lots of playful energy for a mature gent. He is wonderful with other dogs and children. He is good on leash and does need a leash or a fenced yard as he can have some wanderlust. Nitro does struggle with house training as so many of these little dogs do and will benefit from having a potty floor pad available for when he just can't hold it. He is just a love, very happy, out-going, loves everyone. And best of all he is not a barker, which I really appreciate here!!!

Pug Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meryl is listed on our site as a TERRIER/PUG mix, not Westie, but unfortunately TERRIER in general is not a choice on this site...so I picked Westie as being close.Meryl was born about August 31, 2012 and weighs about 30 lbs. She is a leggy little thing that came to us from a 'repeat supplier' (those who take in free to good home dogs, keep them awhile, tire of them, and pass them on) as a Pug/Pom mix, but we are struggling with the breed and really have no clue, she's really mixed. She is said to be good around kids of all ages, good on leash and fine in the car. We are told she was house trained, but this was not a very good environment ... (Read More)if you know what I mean, and she may need a little touch up once she is moved again. She is a cutie that would like a little stability in her life from now on. She is wonderful with the other dogs. (Less)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Liam Pugalug was born about July 8, 2011 and weighs about 30 lbs. He is just as cute as he is wiggly, happy, friendly. He wiggled his way up our driveway and into our hearts. We can't imagine why he ended up stray and unwanted!!! He is wonderful with the other dogs and everyone he meets.

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-19-00318The General (male)

Pug    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The General was born about August 6, 2004 and weighs about 30 lbs. When The General was put in a crate in our car to come here he sat up like the most proud dog we've ever seen! He didn't care if he was filthy and smelly, he was proud and happy to be leaving his past life. Every mill dog does best going into a home with another 'normal' dog. A woman that has befriended a group of millers in central New York has promised to see nothing, hear nothing, and say nothing as long as the millers hand dogs over to her once they are through with them instead of killing them. She then distributes the 'used' dogs to rescues and sends many here. ... (Read More)This group was only marginal fearful of us, so not too bad. The Bichon has what we call 'puppy mill foot' and will probably need to be treated with antibiotics off and on throughout life. This condition happens when they've stood on wire bottom cages for 24/7 years, upon year, upon years. It tends to happen to the heavier dogs, the lesser weight dogs don't get it so bad - makes sense. In this load the fur wasn't too bad compared to what we've seen, but the adult dogs had normal mill dog teeth where you can't see any white at all and when you check the teeth your fingers smell like you've just put them inside a rotting carcass. They will be getting dentals, but a single dental doesn't undo the damage done for so many years and will need to be done on a rather regular basis until the teeth are all gone or the erosion ceases by your good care. We will be working on house training, but surely you will have work to do in this area and we have wonderful notes to help you. These are notes that have had the best success with mill dogs. So, if I've not deterred you by this, brutally honest, depressing description by now and you still feel that you want to help one of these dogs and experience the magical joy of watching one of them decide they can love a human and become a real dog or as real as they will ever become, go ahead and e mail and ask us to send you our 'Working will Mill Dog Notes' and we will be happy to do so. Adopting one of these dogs is not so much about you as it is about the dog, it is an amazingly unselfish thing to do. You will be rewarded in the long run, but it may take awhile. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-19-00296Hoss Bonadio (male)

Pug Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The Bonadio Group, 171 Sully's Trail, Pittsford, NY sponsored the transport that brought 40 dogs north out of a high kill pound in TN. How high kill???? Well, while Katie was busy making the very difficult choices she has to make down there, she accidentally entered the wrong door and there was Emma a healthy, young, medium sized, black girl who was on a table, tail just a wagging not minding that her arm was being shaved, while enjoying all the attention she was getting from a couple of the staff. Little did she realize that the needle that was now 2 inches from her arm was going to stop her heart from beating and her tail would never ... (Read More)wag again. The procedure was STOPPED and Emma was immediately loaded in the truck! We also took George who was next in line because they couldn't afford to treat him and he was painfully thin. We are working on George and hope that it is only worms and we'll be able to make him better. He is one really sweet boy and we love him already. We also took a pretty, really sweet, Cocker named Sammy who has massive ear infections, one eye is turned rather inside out and the other looks odd so he will need some very special vet care, but we have him in the best foster home for the blind and he's happy as can be. There are 37 others with their own stories, but these are the three heart breakers so far. The staff at his shelter do the best they can and truly love these dogs but their resources are incredibly limited. Thank you Bonadio Group, an accounting, business and financial services firm providing audit, tax and business consulting services, for making this trip, which runs about $800.00, possible!!!!! All dogs from the south are heart worm tested, but they cannot be tested until they are about 6 months old. So, if you choose a puppy from this group you must keep that puppy on heart worm 'preventative' at least through it's 7th month just in case it is carrying the larvae. As for Hoss, he weighs about 25 lbs. and was born about November 19, 2013 and he is on the shy side. It took him a few days here to think we are cool and give us gentle little kisses. Hoss will need an understanding home to make him comfortable and not a lot of commotion. There is no aggression, but no little kids, please, due to the commotion they cause. He is wonderful with other dogs and did fine on the ride here. This is all we know so far, we'll be learning as we go. (Less)

Chuggs is the funniest pup we've ever had -- just looking at her makes you happy! She has a pug body with all the extra wrinkly skin and sitting on top is this tiny little smiling chi face. She looks a bit like a reverse bobble head. She is house trained and crate trained and VERY easy going. She is truly a love and fun to hang out with...

Pug Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed

Bailey is a charmer. This 6 year old puggle is about 18 pounds of joy. She is housebroken and also uses wee wee pads. She is good with dogs. She adores children and is very social in general. We do not know about cats with this girl. She has been brought up to date on all vetting. Bailey is microchipped. She is spayed and ready for a home. She would love to be with a family although anywhere she gets lots of love and has a good loving home will be considered. She has a good deal of energy so a fenced yard would be great or else if you like to walk this would be a great dog for you. She has no issues. She just found herself in a ... She hasn't done a thing wrong and doesn't deserve to have no home. One introduction and you will be hooked on her. Applications available at www.nbrescue.org. Pug Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Gracie was born about June 2, 2012 and weighs about 22 lbs. I guess 2 is her lucky number! She is here because her human Dad passed away and she had no Mom. She's been around children and was wonderful and she's good with other dogs. We were told she was good with cats, lived with one, but she wasn't too fond of the large, orange, cat that hangs around the garage. She is good on leash and does great in the car. She can have some wanderlust so will either need a leash or a fenced in yard. We are told she was struggling with house training and we were told that after the owner died she was left in the house for a couple of days with a ... (Read More)neighbor trying to let her out often enough. So, there may be some work ahead in this area, but she's a smart little girl and should catch on in a normal environment. She would love her own squeaky toys as well. She just LIGHTS UP when shes given one! And she just LOOOOOVES treats! She's a cutie for sure with a cute little wiggle butt (consistently wagging tail). Update: Sadly Gracie is back with us after several months because the lady that adopted her had a very bad stroke. This time she had no human Dad. (Less)

Bailey was born about August 20, 2010 and weighs about 16 lbs. He's a slim built little guy that is as cute as can be! Bailey is good with cats and kids and he does great in a car. He may need a leash or fenced yard as he gets distracted and could wander away chasing butterflies or snowflakes. He is obviously mixed, but with what we don't know. He does wonderful with the other dogs here! He's really an adorable little guy that is happy, funny, playful and very loving.
