Rescue Me ID: 16-01-13-00320Sam (male)

Pug    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sam is ~7 yrs old give or take, we are not sure as he came from the local shelter. Sam was Heartworm positive when he came in, but his treatment has been completed. Sam has been with his foster family since May. He has a great personality and loves his pug siblings in his foster home. Sam does have some medical issues, He has been diagnosed with Spondylosis - a condition that affects the vertebral bones of the spine. Sam also has osteoarthritis in his hips, (also known as DJD) which is progressive and permanent long-term deterioration of the cartilage surrounding the joints. Dogs with DJD may exhibit a decreased level of activity, ... (Read More)occasional lameness, and a stiff gait that worsens with exercise. Many affected dogs live happy lives, even though they may be somewhat limited in flexibility and range of motion. These symptoms may increase with exercise, long periods of inactivity, or cold weather. Sam is able to move around independently, plays for short periods of time and can go up and down short stairs on his own. He needs a family willing to keep him mobile by taking controlled walks, short play periods followed with rest, and continue him on arthritis supplements and pain medication when necessary. While all of this sounds terrible, these are common pug issues and if you have ever owned a pug you will understand that good diet and care will keep him going. Currently Sam is a real ball of fun and keeps his foster family on their toes. Sam made it through heartworm treatment with flying colors and he is waiting for a family to take him home! Please apply for Sam and make him a super happy Pug!! (Less)
